The Erasmus University in Rotterdam uses a desktop grid, a system that employs the unused computing power of pc's for scientific research. The computing power of the pc's is used for the analysis of DNA data.

On an average day, some 300.000 hours of otherwise unused computing time is spent on the 20.000 pc's. The system costs only 100.000 euro.
