Supporting TenneT
VORtech has won an important tender from TenneT in close collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Netherlands. For at least three years, we will be helping to develop software for calculations around the high-voltage network.Β
Challenges
It is common knowledge that TenneT is facing major challenges. The energy transition means that the high-voltage network must be expanded quickly. This raises all kinds of questions. How will the demand for electricity develop? How will the supply side of the energy supply develop with increasing use of sustainable sources? The answers to these types of questions require intensive calculations. Standard software tools are often not available or sufficient for this. That is why TenneT largely develops the software itself.Β
But the challenges are not only in designing the future high-voltage network. Since the expansion of the network takes time, measures are needed to meet the rapidly increasing demand with the existing network. That also requires a lot of analyses and calculations and TenneT also partly develops the software for this itself.Β Β
A large team
Fully aware of its central role in the energy transition and the urgency, TenneT is working to further streamline this software development. In that context, they decided to issue a tender to hire a large team with the right expertise to work on this type of calculation software.Β
That was a golden opportunity for VORtech. In recent years, TenneT often hired us, not only for our mathematical knowledge but certainly also for the smooth way in which we work together with the experts at TenneT. We knew that we could make a good offer.Β Β
But the size of the request was a bit too much for us, so we had to look for a partner. TCS perfectly fitted our needs. They could not only offer us extra manpower with experience in the energy domain but also strengthen us in the field of Cloud applications and data engineering. In jointly working on the offer for the tender, we found that we have a strong synergy. That has given us confidence that together we can indeed offer a very good team to TenneT.Β
A dream projectΒ
For VORtech, this is a dream project. It offers technically very interesting challenges for our colleagues, and it touches on our objective of doing socially relevant work. In addition, we know that it is pleasant to work with the people at TenneT: both they and we work from a strong sense of responsibility to help the Netherlands to successfully complete the energy transition.Β
