Sphinx is a documentation tool for software projects that can create easily searchable HTML pages and excellent PDFs. It is well suited for documenting scientific code bases due to its support for LaTeX-style equations and numerous extensions for plots, diagrams and much more. It would be nice if we could integrate Sphinx with the common build system CMake so that we can automatically generate documentation. This blog describes an approach to do just that.

Elke ontwikkelaar snapt dat goede documentatie essentieel is voor het soort complexe code waarin VORtech gespecialiseerd is. Maar niemand vindt het leuk om te maken en meestal is de bestaande documentatie achterhaald, foutief en onvoldoende. Welke documentatie is essentieel en welke kun je achterwege laten?

Om het 25-jarig jubileum van VORtech met onze klanten te vieren, organiseren we op dinsdagmiddag 28 september een symposium rondom computermodellen en algoritmen voor operationeel gebruik. Daarbij kijken we terug naar waar we vandaan komen, maar vooral ook vooruit naar de ontwikkelingen die er aan komen.

Zondag is het weer zover: op 14 maart is het de International Day of Mathematics, ofwel π-dag. Op deze dag wordt wereldwijd stilgestaan bij het belang van de wiskunde. VORtech werkt daar graag aan mee. Wiskunde is voor ons en onze klanten van enorm belang omdat het de basis is van alle slimme en nauwkeurige algoritmen die we voor onze klanten implementeren.

Er worden letterlijk miljarden euro's geïnvesteerd in digital twins. Deskundigen denken te weten dat die investeringen waardevol zijn. Waarom denken ze dat? Wat is nou eigenlijk de business case achter al deze investeringen? Als bedrijf dat de technologie achter digital twins levert, bespreken we bij VORtech deze vragen regelmatig met onze klanten. Dat geeft ons goed inzicht in de argumenten die meestal gebruikt worden.

Digital twins zijn de hype van de dag in automatisering. Maar het concept is nogal dubbelzinnig: mensen bedoelen er heel verschillende dingen mee. Om daar wat orde in aan te brengen heb ik geprobeerd om een classificatie van digital twins te vinden. Het blijkt dat een enkele classificatie niet volstaat.
